The past three weeks have been just about the craziest ever. But fun and exciting too. So I thought I'd blog about it.
So it all started back in July, when I went to visit an academic adviser at SLCC. I was curious as to how much further I had in my program until I could graduate and transfer. I've been quite antsy about it since I'm so far behind other people my age. She told me I had two semesters left to finish the Pre-Teacher Education program. 11 credits in Fall '10 and 10 credits in Spring '11. This was my outline for the next six months. Then I would graduate, apply to a 4-yr., and find a reliable education program.
On September 30th, UVU came to SLCC for transfer week. Since I'd been thinking about UVU, I figured I would talk with the advisers and ask a little more about the program and the steps I should take before I transfer there. The adviser looked over my transcript and said that I was finished at SLCC and had all the credits I need to transfer for Spring semester. Really? Okay. I'll go for it. When are applications due?
October 1st.
I had exactly one week to meet with my SLCC adviser, apply for SLCC graduation, apply to UVU, send transcripts to UVU, meet with my UVU adviser, apply for the education program, schedule my Praxis exam, and attend UVU's teacher committee interview.
I was really worried but I knew I would beat myself up later if I didn't even try for it.
First, I met with another SLCC adviser. He told me I had 10 credits to finish and graduate at SLCC. Okay, I'm confused. UVU told me I was done?... Oh, 10 credits to graduate in Pre-Teacher Ed. But I am able to graduate in General Studies. Next, meet with my UVU adviser. I wondered if having a degree in Pre-Teacher would boost my chances of getting in... or really do anything more for me at all. She said it didn't matter. They only look at my GPA. Phew! I decided to apply for the program that day and I scheduled my Praxis exam and interview. Then I applied for graduation.
Today I had my teacher committee interview and it went great! I felt really good about it, I'm hoping the interviewers did too. There are about 160 students applying... I'm crossing my fingers that I left a good impression. I will find out in two weeks if I am the newest Wolverine! I'm really psyched about the whole thing and even though the process has been more than stressful, it's been exciting. Next Friday I take my Praxis exam, hoping that I pass that with so little time to cram. Wishes {prayers} would be much appreciated. :)
As a side note: in the whole process of figuring out my schooling, Husband talked to an adviser with me, and he found out that he can graduate in Spring with TWO degrees! An AS/General Studies and AS/Psychology. He kicks butt for being the best student I know. I kick butt for planning his schedules awesomely without even trying.
