So what's it like to work at Costco? I get this question {and many others} all the time... so here are some answers:
Do you get free stuff/discounts?
Unfortunately, no free or discounted merchandise. I get a free executive membership (the one that costs $100/yr. and comes with a fancy black and gold card) for myself and three other people. I got a free Costco shirt once. I wear it to work almost every day. Oh, I also automatically qualify for an AmEx card with a $500 limit (they can do this because if I don't pay it off, they take it right out of my paycheck... sneaky, right?).
Can you get me a discount?
This question honestly usually comes right after "do you get free stuff?" No, I don't get free stuff. I don't get a sweet discount. Sooooo, I can't get them for you either.
Do you get paid a lot?
All Costco employees start at a wage of $11/hr., and everyone moves up in pay according to hours worked. It's pretty sweet. They love us.
What is the most you have spent at Costco at one time?
I think I topped out at $300 once. Which is not much. I don't buy too much there... it's easy to spend a lot of money quickly, I try not to. I still have a minor heart attack whenever I run my card for $160.
What exactly do you mean when you say you fold clothes?
Um... I fold clothes. If you have been to Costco, you may have noticed the gigantic section dead center of the store with tables full of clothing. Yes, it is my job to fold all of that clothing. So when I say I fold clothes, I mean I go to work stand at those tables and fold clothes. Some people call it magic.

Do you hate it when people come and mess up what you just folded?
I dislike this question more than I dislike the actual messing up that takes place. It drives me insane when people think it's a clever joke to ask if I hate folding what they are messing up... Um, no. Mostly I just don't like that you're pointing out the fact that I am nothing more than a cleaner-upper.
What is the funniest thing that happens at work?
I have to say I really really think it's funny when people walk up to me while I'm working (wearing the Costco shirt previously mentioned), lean over to look at my name tag, and then proceed to ask...
"do you work here?"
Mostly I just want to laugh and say that I don't, but I have never done that... and I never will. :) Also, I really like when people ask me where the batteries are. Because the batteries never ever move and they are usually just about 5 ft. away from where the question is being asked.
So there you are people. Costco love in a nutshell. One last question I'll sometimes get is how do I apply? Go to Costco.com, and at the bottom of the page click on Employment Opportunities.
